Book description
Trekking in Greenland - The Arctic Circle Trail is a guide to the
longest waymarked trail in Greenland. Running from Kangerlussuaq to
Sisimiut (both of which have airport access) the route traverses remote,
empty, silent and stunningly scenic arctic tundra. There are excellent
opportunities to see animals, birds and wild flowers and to enjoy the
use of free canoes to cross the largest of the lakes. There are also
simple, free huts available to provide shelter at intervals if
necessary. This guide is illustrated with a variety of amazing
photographs and its route is highlighted on continuous trekking maps.
The guide also includes an optional extension to the Greenlandic ice
cap. The trekking route in the guide is not particularly difficult, and
is mostly gently graded with just a few short, steep and rocky slopes.
However, the landscape between the two towns of Kangerlussuaq and
Sisimiut is extremely remote and those who choose to take on this route
must be competely self-sufficient. The book includes plenty of practical
information on what to take with you and when to go, as well as on
safety, travel and accommodation. Paddy Dillon is a prolific walker
and guidebook writer, with over 40 books to his name and contributions
to 25 other books, many for Cicerone. He has written extensively for
several outdoor magazines and other publications and appeared on radio
and television. An indefatigable long-distance walker, Paddy has walked
the Arctic Circle Trail in both directions, and some parts on several
occasions.
