Book description

A new guide by Gillian Price to walking the Sorrento Peninsula, Amalfi Coast and Monti Lattari, from Positano, Sorrento and Amalfi, and also the islands of Capri and Ischia in the Gulf of Naples, Italy, Europe. Known as the Amalfi Coast, the steep southern edge of the Sorrento peninsula, on the Gulf of Naples, famous for its medieval villages perched atop plunging cliffs, with their near-vertical vineyards and lemon orchards, is now recognised as a World Heritage Site. This coastline, the rugged landscape behind, crowned by the Monti Lattari, and the idyllic islands of Capri and Ischia together also make a perfect holiday destination for walkers. The whole area is crisscrossed by ancient mule tracks, pilgrim routes and goat tracks, offering a variety of walking from family strolls to strenuous treks across terrain from paved paths to verdant hillside paths and rough volcanic scree. The 30 routes in this guide are all designed to be fitted into a single day, with a panoramic picnic stop halfway round and perhaps a plunge into the sparkling Mediterranean at the end. Gillian Price was born in England, and has travelled through Asia and trekked the Himalayas. From her home in Venice, she is now exploring the mountain ranges and flatter parts of Italy to produce a series of outstanding guides for Cicerone. Gillian is an active member of the Italian Alpine Club and the Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild.
