The Dangerous Road follows Gwilym and his dog Brown as they go off on their first trip to the livestock markets in England. He is being looked after and guided by his father's shepherd Huw. They set off in high spirits, but soon start learning hard lessons when Brown makes a bad mistake as the sheep cross a ford. Gwilym struggles with Huw and his reliance on his Bible (just stories, according to Gwilym), but he soon realises that there is more to it that just a book of stories when the flock is attacked first by stray dogs, then by rustlers. An exciting historical adventure story for children aged 8-11, based on Psalm 23. Eleanor Watkins has written many books for Scripture Union, the most recent being The Dangerous Road, the story of a Welsh 19th-century sheep farmer's son making his first journey on the dangerous road to the sheep markets of Gloucester.
