Book description
From the author: "After surviving two bouts with stress disease
and depression, I set out to discover what was actually going on in my
life that was leading me so precariously to the edge of
self-destruction. I learned to view depression as a disease inherent in
leadership, even more widespread among spiritual leaders. When
leadership responsibilities are linked to warfare with the world, the
flesh, and the devil, you have a formula for all kinds of stress
disease." This book shares more than the personal experience of the
author. Physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual symptoms of
depression are addressed as well as common causes of depression. Sawyer
shares nine spiritual disciplines that will be a significant part of
reaching a cure to depression and hindering repeat bouts in the future.
Randy Sawyer speaks with a voice of experience and a strong desire to
help those in ministry find a way to overcome the profound impact of
depression on the individual, the family, and the ministry.
"Battling the Black Dog" is an honest and transparent look at
one of the evil one's great weapons: depression. Randy Sawyer's personal
battle with this all to present foe is gripping and instructive. He has
written a book that will help many. Would that more ministers of the
gospel would write with such openness concerning the struggles of life
and ministry we all face as we seek to follow Jesus! Dr. Randy Sawyer
has been in ministry since 1977, serving in numerous capacities
including pastor and college professor. He has published several books
including "Regaining Balance" nd "Regaining
Strength." He has conducted over 400 revivals and numerous Bible
and evangelism conferences. Randy Sawyer graduated from Free Will
Baptist Bible College, Nashville, TN in 1978. He received his M. Div
from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, NC in 1995.
He received his D. Min. in 2001 from Reformed Theological Seminary in
