for help, and only he can save the day. Born in Warwickshire, England,
W. J. Corbett joined the Merchant Nav as a galley-boy when he was
sixteen and saw the world. Later, during National Service, he became an
Army Physical Training Instructor. Now living in Birmingham, the author
has also worked as a a factory hand, furniture mover, building-site
labourer and dishwasher. His first book, The Song of Pentecost, won the
prestigious Whitbread Award.
