Book description
The wry, honest and often hilarious chronicles of a very brave and
clever TV presenter, Arctic Explorer and general drawer of the Short
Straw. As one third of the BBC's Top Gear team, Richard Hammond's year
since his near-fatal accident has been full of stunts and drama. From a
race to the North Pole (with skis and dog-sled) to a journey through
Botswana in a car named Oliver, and a seventeen-mile run through floods
to his Gloucestershire home, in order to get to his daughter's birthday
party, the year has been eventful, to say the least . . .With his
boundless optimism in the face of certain failure, Richard Hammond has
become one of our funniest writers about a life (and a job) which
constantly present a challenge. Richard Hammond is an award-winning TV
presenter whose wry and infectious humour first propelled him to fame in
2002 as one-third of the team on BBC2's flagship programme, the
world-conquering Top Gear, now in its tenth series. He presented five
seasons of Brainiac for Sky One, he was a regular team captain on the
quiz show Petrolheads and his Richard Hammond's 5 O'Clock Show was shown
every weekday on ITV1 for several months in 2006. He has made a number
of TV documentaries: Richard Hammond and The Holy Grail, The Gunpowder
Plot: Exploding the Legend, Timewatch - Bloody Omaha, and Richard
Hammond Meets Evel Kneivel. In 2007 and 2009 Richard filmed the highly
acclaimed National Geographic series Engineering Connections. In 2008,
the Top Gear Live show went on the road to London, Birmingham and Dublin
and in 2009 to Johannesburg, Auckland, Sydney and Hong Kong. In 2009
Richard presented two brand new series for the BBC: Blast Lab on BBC2, a
science programme appealing to young children and the first series that
he both presented and co-developed with his own production company,
Hamster's Wheel. The second series launched in 2009 was the very popular
Total Wipeout on BBC1 on Saturday nights. Richard has also hosted his
own Bank Holiday shows on Radio 2 and his highly successful books
include the No. 1 bestseller ON THE EDGE.
